Douglas Stafford Account Manager Chad Robbins and Project Manager Crystal Campbell, saw a live demonstration from ASIMO – a humanoid robot designed and developed by Honda.

Honda began developing humanoid robots in the 1980s, including several prototypes that preceded ASIMO. It was the company’s goal to create a walking robot which could adapt and interact in human situations.

ASIMO stands 130cm tall and weighs approximately 54kg and has the ability to recognise moving objects, postures, gestures, its surrounding environment, sounds and faces, which enables it to interact with humans.

The robot interprets voice commands and human gestures, enabling it to know when a handshake is offered or when a person waves or points, and then respond accordingly.

ASIMO responds to questions by nodding or providing a verbal answer and can recognise several different faces and address them by name. It can also recognise and respond to its name.

Douglas Stafford team member, Chad, said: “It was fascinating to see ASIMO and watch how it moves. The technological advances made by Honda in recent years are extremely impressive and ASIMO is a great example of that.

“Our thanks go to our clients Honda UK for the invitation to see ASIMO in action.”
