Paul Andrews, who works in the Video Editing department at Douglas Stafford’s Lakeside North Harbour head office in Portsmouth, is a finalist in the Montegrappa new DC Heroes & Villains Collection art contest.

To celebrate the launch of the new DC Heroes & Villains pen line, Montegrappa has invited comic fans from across the world to compete in a special art contest, using pen and ink, to draw their favourite DC comics superheroes and supervillains. As a finalist, Paul has already won a Montegrappa pen worth $350.

Paul, who has worked at Douglas Stafford for five years, said: “I’m delighted to have been selected as a finalist for this contest. Montegrappa produce such a beautiful range of products and have such a rich history, for my artwork to be selected by them for this competition is a real honour.

“Art has always been a major passion of mine, I can’t remember a time when I haven’t loved drawing.

“I have always been a comic book fan, and I’m pretty certain that the first film I ever saw was one of the first Superman films starring Christopher Reeve. I’d love to win this contest, though I’m sure there will be some tough competition.”

Since Paul signed up to Twitter last year, his artwork has been recognised by stars of the big screen through his page @PaulAndrewsArt

“I have received favourites, re-tweets and comments from the likes of Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, and sci-fi legend, David Prowse, the actor that portrayed Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy,” he said.

Paul’s drawings on Starbucks cups have also caught the eye of major brands, including the global coffee chain itself.

“Starbucks UK has been very positive about my drawings and have even started following me. The support has led to further attention for my artwork and even to people asking to buy the cups!” added Paul.

Winners of the competition will receive a bespoke DC Heroes & Villains pen set worth more than $1,400, and have their original art professionally featured by Montegrappa.

The entrant whose artwork receives the highest number of ‘Likes’ on Facebook, will be crowned the winner.
