Keep your bike safe this winter

Bikers urged to think about bike protection

As we prepare to turn the clocks back one hour this weekend, the makers of Bike Trac (Road Angel Group) are urging motorcyclists to consider their security arrangements this winter.

With reduced daylight hours, bike thieves can be more brazen in their tactics due to the lack of daylight. Bike Trac suggests a first level of defence of locks and chains, but believes installing a tracker will give the owner much more chance of recovering the bike if it is stolen.

Bike Trac’s Bill Taylor said: “Statistics are all too easy to quote, but the simple fact is that theft is prevalent during the hours of darkness. While it’s obvious more motorcycles are ridden in the summer months, many of those bikes are laid up in the winter and are not always checked regularly. With Bike Trac an owner doesn’t need to leave the comfort of their own sofa to check on their bike, and with functions like our battery voltage checker they can even monitor the condition of the bike remotely too.”

Bike Trac recovered more than £500,000 worth of stolen motorcycles during 2013, with its fastest recovery yet recorded in October – just 16 minutes. The system has also played a part in several charity adventures due to the Bike Trac’s ability to involve riders online with live online tracking that can be downloaded and shared.
