Two classic TV vehicles are going up for auction
By Jamie White – Head of Communications
Vehicles that starred in two of Britain’s most watched TV programmes, EastEnders and Minder, are set to go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ sale, at the very first Restoration Show.
Offered with no reserve, the soap opera star, YLK 611G, is the original EastEnders milk float that was first used back in 1985. The Express Dairies Morris float, painted in the colours of the fictional Walford depot, could be seen in many an opening scene during the early hours, rattling around Albert Square before the cameras panned off into the Fowler’s house or the Queen Vic Pub.
The float has not been charged for some time and requires a little care and attention to bring it back to its former East end glory. Not seen in public for nearly 12 years, Arthur Daley’s 1981 Daimler Sovereign saloon from hit ITV show Minder is estimated at between £10,500 and £15,000 and presents the opportunity to own a piece of TV history.
The car was driven extensively by both Arthur (George Cole) and Terry (Dennis Waterman) from series four through to six of the show, as well as featuring in two Christmas specials ‘Around The Corner’ in 1984 and ‘The Orient Express’ in 1985.
The Portland beige paintwork is in superb order throughout and the car was subject to a sympathetic bodywork restoration in 1986 and 1987. It is now sold with a new MOT and six months tax.
The event takes place on April 12th at the NEC, Birmingham.
