Ford’s support of the UK’s longest running charity off-road event – the Macmillan Cancer Support 4×4 Challenge – helped to raise over £1 million.

Ford Ranger pick-up vehicles – voted International Pick-Up of the Year for 2013 – provided off-road support for the event organisers and competitors in the endurance challenge, which started at The Craven Arms, Shropshire and finished 850 miles later in Warrington.

Founder and organiser, Selwyn Kendrick, said: “The Ford Rangers are an essential part of the Mac 4×4 Challenge team, allowing officials to plan the event, cope with the toughest of terrain, and even rescue other vehicles.”

The Macmillan Cancer Support 4×4 UK Challenge was first held in 2002 with eight teams taking part, and has grown in size and stature with Ford vehicles used every year since. It is run as a day-and-night test of navigational skills, observation, on and off-road driving and endurance.

Selwyn commented: “More than 30 prizes were awarded for various aspects for the event, but the real winner is Macmillan Cancer Support. I am amazed to have reached the £1 million mark. The original idea was to try to raise £20,000 at some point and we collected that in the first year. It was £60,000 in the second year and it’s been around £100,000 annually ever since.”
