Douglas Stafford team member completes charity 10km Brighton Equality Walk
By Jamie White – Head of Communications
A team member from Douglas Stafford donned her walking shoes – and then her high heels – for a walk to raise money for charity.
Emily Alice Wilson, who works in the mystery shopping company’s Quality Control Department, took part in Stonewall’s Brighton Equality Walk.
The 10km walk was held to raise awareness and funds for Stonewall’s latest campaign – Gay. Let’s get the meaning Straight!
Emily said: “I wanted to help raise money and awareness for this very worthy charity. Homophobic language isn’t just ‘harmless banter’. It is having a negative impact on gay young people, making them feel less happy at school and less likely to reach their full potential.”
The Stonewall campaign has produced a range of tools and resources to help schools, teachers, and young people challenge homophobic language and bullying.
Emily set herself a target of raising £150, but decided try to raise more by agreeing to wear her high heels for the final 3km if she hit £200.
She added: “It was a bit tricky finishing the walk in my high heels, but it was a lot fun. It was quite windy on the day, but fortunately it didn’t rain. I used to live in Brighton, but the route took us round parts of Brighton I’d never seen before.”
Emily, who likes to bake in her spare time, also organised a cake sale at Douglas Stafford’s head office at 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth which added to the amount she raised, taking her total to £311.75.
Anyone wishing to sponsor Emily can still do so by texting EMAW90 with the amount (for example, EMAW90 £2) to 70070.
