Ford’s free young driver training programme – Driving Skills for Life – successfully kicked off its UK tour last week in Glasgow, and is preparing to head south to Gaydon and Chobham.

The Heritage Motor Centre Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire, will host the second Ford Driving Skills for Life training sessions on October 4th and 5th, before the programme rolls on to Longcross Proving Ground in Chertsey, Surrey, on October 8th.

Participants can register for a morning or afternoon of free driver training, designed to fast-track new drivers’ knowledge and skills behind the wheel, while highlight some of the dangers that they may be exposed to.

Participants who register at www.forddsfl.co.uk are presented with a certificate of their achievement at the end of the session, as well as a £15 shopping voucher. Those who register for any of the sessions at Gaydon will also be offered a free tour of the Heritage Motor Museum.

Earlier this month, Ford Driving Skills for Life research found that one in three young Brits have taken a ‘selfie’ while driving, and that one in four have visited or posted an update on social media sites. To demonstrate the dangers of using a smartphone behind the wheel, the updated training, provided by the AA, will incorporate low-speed manoeuvres in a controlled environment while using these devices.

In addition, Ford will provide its specially-developed ‘Drink Driving Suit’, consisting of weights with pads to restrict movement, headphones to distort hearing and ‘beer goggles’, all of which replicate the effects of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.
