A team member from Douglas Stafford successfully completed the Great South Run at the weekend – smashing his personal best time in the process.

Project Administrator, David Williamson, who is based at the company’s Lakeside North Harbour head office, took part in the 10-miles race in his wheelchair.

David was born with no tibia bones and had his legs amputated when he was less than a year old, making his achievement even more incredible.

David completed the event in a time of 1 hour 27 minutes – beating his previous Great South Run time.

David was raising money for the Tree of Hope charity which helps and supports the daughter of a friend of David’s who was born prematurely, with a brain hemorrhage.

David said: “The whole atmosphere amongst the participants is just so vital. Everyone helps everyone else to keep going, everyone is talking and keeping each other’s spirits up. And along with the crowd clapping, cheering and playing music, it’s such a special atmosphere. I’d also like to thank whoever is responsible for the weather for keeping it dry and not too windy!

“I have to say thank you to so many people who have supported me, especially my colleagues at Douglas Stafford who backed me and helped me raise even more money. It was my absolute honour to raise money for Willow.

“I also managed to beat my personal best by seven minutes and came in three minutes under my target! Now, what’s next?”
