Millions of pounds are set to be spent online today by shoppers – on the day now known across the UK as Cyber Monday.

Following Black Friday last week, Cyber Monday is another key date in the Christmas shopping calendar, with experts predicting that hundreds of thousands of pounds will be spent every minute.

Because Cyber Monday takes place online, there won’t be huge crowds and supermarket battles that were witnessed on Black Friday. However, shoppers who were put off by the in-store chaos can now grab some Cyber Monday bargains online.

Total online sales from Friday through to Monday are set to hit over £1.32 billion this year, with sales peaking today.

Analysts say the first two Mondays of December tend to be the busiest shopping days to buy online after browsing over the weekend.

As December goes on, online spending tends to quiet down and is replaced by more spending on the High Street for last-minute gifts and Christmas preparations.
