The judging has been finalised, the scores are in, and the countdown is officially on to this year’s The News Business Excellence Awards.
Douglas Stafford – based at Lakeside North Harbour, Portsmouth – is the proud sponsor of this year’s Apprentice of the Year category at the coveted awards, which take place at The Guildhall, Portsmouth in March.
It is the third year in a row that Douglas Stafford has been involved with the event, which recognises the excellence in performance of businesses in the Hampshire region, having sponsored the Retail and Hospitality award in 2013 and the Customer Service award in 2014.
As a sponsor, Douglas Stafford Managing Director, Ben Sargeant, and Head of Communications, Jamie White, were invited onto the judging panel for the award, along with four others, which included The News Editor, Mark Waldron.
Jamie said: “We were overwhelmed by the standard of the entries. There were some very strong candidates, who work in a variety of industry sectors.
“It really highlights how beneficial apprenticeship schemes can be and how much can be achieved. Several of our head office team members joined Douglas Stafford as graduates or trainees and have progressed and stayed with the company since, working in several key departments.
“Everybody who entered this year’s Apprentice of the Year category should be very proud of themselves – it’s a shame we can’t give them all an award.”
