Mr Cameron dropped into Lakeside North Harbour to visit The News, as part of a whistle-stop tour of Portsmouth and Gosport.

During the day, Mr Cameron confirmed a deal to bring new life to a ship hall in Portsmouth, which currently stands empty, as firms Magma Structures and BAE Systems will set up at Portsmouth Naval Base.

The PM took time to visit Sir Ben Ainslie’s racing base site in Old Portsmouth, just days after the site was visited by the Duchess of Cambridge. Mr Cameron also chatted to Ben Ainslie Racing apprentices to learn more about their involvement with the project.

Mr Cameron also met with apprentices from Vector Aerospace, in Gosport, which has won a £420m contract to service the Royal Air Force’s fleet of Chinooks.

The announcements add to the £100 million investment in HMNB Portsmouth that will ensure the city is ready to become the home of the brand new Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier in 2017.

Mr Cameron concluded his visit with a tour of The News offices, before leaving Lakeside North Harbour via the building’s atrium, which was captured by Douglas Stafford Head of Communications, Jamie White, in this video.
