Douglas Stafford Managing Director, Ben Sargeant, Operations Manager, Paul Brown and Head of Communications, Jamie White joined other senior business leaders for a talk about the course, which is aimed at director level team members within a business.

After successfully completing the course recently, Ben was invited to say a few words to the other like-minded directors about his positive experience on the course.

The Value-Added Board programme has been specifically designed for current and aspiring directors of small and medium-sized businesses, in conjunction with the Portsmouth Business School, Institute of Directors and experienced board members.

Ben said: “We are delighted to be supporting a course aimed at director level, specifically focusing on what makes a good director and leader, and how a business can successfully continue to grow.

“I attended the course in November, and I took a great deal away from it. There are many aspects that we have been able to put into practice within our company to strive towards business growth and development.

“People development at all levels is vitally important for a business to be successful and grow, and it’s something we promote and encourage at Douglas Stafford.”

There were also talks from Giorgio Bendoni, Chair of the Hampshire Institute of Directors, Dr Philip Brabazon, Professor James McCalman, Professor Gioia Pescetto and Anne Stoneham – all from the Portsmouth Business School – and Leslie Spiers from Boardroom Dynamics.

The three day Value-Added Board course includes sessions on developing effective leadership skills and understanding the roles and responsibilities of board members, developing strategic awareness, planning for the future and creating a culture of innovation. The third day focuses on developing financial understanding, identifying, assessing and managing the risks of a business.
