Kia Motors UK lands British leg of World Cup Trophy Coca Cola tour
By Jamie White – Head of Communications
The world is getting ready for this year’s biggest sports celebration when the 20th FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil on June 12th.
To whet the appetite of football fans even more, the original FIFA World Cup Trophy will travel around the world in the run-up to the tournament, visiting 90 countries in 267 days.
Kia Motors UK is the official car supplier to the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola during the UK leg of this one-of-a-kind tour, which will take place on March 12th-18th.
To ensure the football world’s most coveted prize travels around Great Britain safely as well as in style, Kia is supplying a fleet of 20 white Sportage crossover vehicles for the Trophy and its entourage.
The Trophy will visit five cities in England, Scotland and Wales during its seven-day UK tour, including Southend-on-Sea, Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and London. At each stop, the FIFA World Cup Trophy will be displayed inside a specially designed transportable dome, where football fans will have the opportunity to see the Trophy up close and to have their picture taken with it.
The dome in turn will be placed at the centre of a pop-up festival at a prominent location within each city, where music, drinks and football games will get visitors in the mood for samba rhythms and football magic.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia Motors UK said: “Football fan or not, everybody gets excited about the FIFA World Cup. Although the Trophy may only be touched by those who have won it or heads of state, Kia Motors UK is proud to get the UK leg of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola around the globe on the road, enabling fans to get as close as possible to the Trophy and share an unforgettable experience.”
