The Duke of York meets Bentley team
By Jamie White – Head of Communications
Team members at Bentley were treated to a royal visit when The Duke of York met with experts and trainees responsible for making the some of the world’s most desirable luxury cars.
The Duke of York was visiting the Volkswagen AG headquarters, near Hanover, as part of the celebrations for the 300th Anniversary of the Hanoverian Monarchy. Bentley has been a part of the Volkswagen Group since 1998.
His Royal Highness, who is the founder of the Duke of York awards for Technical Education, heard how vocational training is undertaken in Germany and how the dual education model has been linked to long term business success.
Bentley has created a new manufacturing apprenticeship that builds on the success of dual education and includes a tailored method to vocational training based on competence profiles and dedicated placements within chosen professional areas such as Bentley specialisms in wood and leather.
This tailored approach will help ensure Bentley has a pipeline of trained young people needed to sustain the unique skills and quality levels required in the luxury car sector. Bentley is seeking to recruit more than 50 apprentices; the biggest single apprentice intake in more than a decade.
Speaking about the visit, Mr Durheimer Bentley Chairman and CEO, said: “Bentley is synonymous with luxury and performance and this is only possible by having the most skilled and motivated workforce. Training and continuous improvement are therefore key to our sustained success. We are honoured His Royal Highness witnessed the skills and met some of the individuals behind our exclusive automobiles, which have made Bentley the most sought after luxury car brand in the world.”
Bentley Motors has close links to The Queen and other Members of The Royal Family, and, as Warrant Holders to HM The Queen, is proud to have supplied the Bentley State Limousine, the official transport of The Sovereign, on the occasion of The Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
