Vodafone has teamed up with Dutch composer Kyteman to create a song specifically for people with limited hearing capabilities.

The mobile phone company harnessed the power of hearing to make music after learning about 19-year-old Vera van Dijk, who has recently been able to hear for the first time thanks to new medical technology.

As part of the new Vodafone Firsts Scheme, a concert was performed to Vera, who now has a cochlear implant to boost the sounds she can hear.

Devised by Dutch creative agency Achtung!, the performance was played to 400 people and features music by Kyteman’s Orchestra.

A Vodafone spokesperson said: “Vera has slowly been discovering the world of music, and her big wish was to experience a live concert for the first time. Together with musical genius Kyteman, Vodafone tried to make her first concert an unforgettable one.”

To ensure the sounds were audible to Ms van Dikl, the song was composed from scratch using the frequencies her cochlear implant enables her to hear.

Because she had limited awareness of the type of music she may like, Ver asked the public to help her choose the song, via social media – and they chose Stay With Me by Sam Smith.
